(January 26, 2017, Lafayette, LA) The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Center for Business & Information Technologies (CBIT) is seeking innovative thinkers and programmers of all types - professional software developers, students (high school/college), business professionals and entrepreneurs to build and present exciting new “Smart Community” applications for the annual CajunCodeFest 5.0 competition March 29 - April 1, 2017. The NIMSAT Institute welcomed Governor Denis Mathen, Province of Namur, Belgium and his team to the NIMSAT Institute on April 23, 2016. Dr. Michael Dunaway, Director of the NIMSAT Institute and Dr. Ramesh Kolluru, Vioce President for Research, Innovation and Economic Development at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette discussed the NIMSAT Institute projects working to enhancing disaster management through technology and conducted a tour of the Louisiana Business Emergency Operations Center, located in Abdalla Hall.

Disaster research institute at UL Lafayette names new leader

The National Incident Management Systems and Advanced Technologies Institute at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette has named Dr. Michael Dunaway as its director.

NIMSAT is part of the Informatics Research Institute at the University. It’s an applied research center in the areas of homeland security and emergency management.

NIMSAT’s efforts include development of public and private sector partnerships through Louisiana Business Emergency Operations Center and the Virtual Business Emergency Operations Center portals.

The Louisiana Business Emergency Operations Center (LA BEOC) is being relocated to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) Research Park. The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and the National Incident Management Systems and Advanced Technologies (NIMSAT) Institute will hold a dedication ceremony Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at 4:00 pm. The event will include a ribbon cutting, open house and reception.

University considered for defense partnership

National security experts are looking to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the city to help create solutions for protecting the nation's infrastructure from a potential electromagnetic pulse attack.

The Congressional Task Force on National and Homeland Security and researchers at UL Lafayette are discussing challenges associated with electromagnetic pulse attacks. Such attacks could shut down the nation’s electrical grid and impact critical infrastructure.
